Save the Date(!) for … More Food & Wine!

One of these years, I’m actually going to make it to this event.  In fact, this year’s not entirely out of the question!

Save the dates, my friends!  Friday, October 31st and Saturday, November 1st!  It’s the annual Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Food & Wine Classic!

Swolphin Classic Beef Tenderloin

Mmm. Beef Tenderloin by Shula’s Steak House!

I hope Mrs. All in WDW and I can jam this event into our busy schedule this Fall.  After all, we do love food and wine.  Who knows?  Time will tell.  Hey!  Maybe we’ll see you there!  Bon appetit, my friends!

Oh, My Laguna Bar! I Can’t Wait to See You!

Less than 24 hours away, and I feel like we’ve waited FOREVER!

I have posted this pic before, but, folks, I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to seeing this view.  The lights, the lake, the warmth, and the camaraderie with other guests and bartenders alike.  I can’t wait one minute longer!

My Seat at Laguna

Oh, and the bartenders.  Paola, Jaime, and Kit are THE best ever!  The friendliest, most fun, absolutely best bartenders on Walt Disney World property!

If you’re anywhere near Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, stop on in.  Pay them a visit.  Who knows?  You might just find us sitting there keeping them company!

How can you deny yourself an opportunity to enjoy this view?

Can You Conquer a Bit of World Showcase Trivia?!

Since we’re in Epcot already – you did see this morning’s Food & Wine post, didn’t you? – I thought we’d tackle a bit of World Showcase trivia.

Before that, though, did you see this morning’s piece?  It’s the All in WDW Readers’ “Ridiculously Early” Food & Wine ’14 Top 13!  You should really go back and take a look!

OK.  Back to trivia.  An easy question today … I think.

People ask me all the time, “Where do you guys like to watch IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, Bob?”

Here's the umbrella table, the ravioli, and the wine. Where's the dark and the fireworks? Ah, just wait!

Here’s the umbrella table, the ravioli, and the wine. Where’s the dark and the fireworks? Ah, just wait!

Our favorite spot is to sit at a tall umbrella table at the front of the Italy pavilion.  We secure a quartino of red wine from Tutto Gusto, take our seats, and enjoy the show!

Of course, the best time of the year to enjoy our favorite viewing location is during Food & Wine … with a helping of Italy’s tasty Ravioli!

So, speaking of the Italy pavilion, it was designed to be set in the Italian city of __________.  Which city?

The All in WDW Readers’ “Ridiculously Early” Food & Wine ’14 Top 13!

So, I’m glad I left the poll open for a few more days than I normally would.  Your participation was awesome!  I wanted as many of you as possible to have a chance to “vote”.

Without further delay, here’s the final tally for, what surely will be, the first of many Food & Wine votes to come!  What?  There’ll be many more?

Uh, yes.  About this time last year, we carved an original list of 61 Food & Wine dishes into an All in WDW Readers’ 2013 Epcot International Food & Wine Pre-Festival Top 25!  Yes, I said 61!  Off and on, it took us weeks!  But, general consensus was we had a blast!

Anyway, here’s the fruits of this week’s labors!

  1. Crispy Pork Belly
  2. Crispy Fried Potato Balls
  3. Braised Beef
  4. Sea Scallop
  5. Brazilian Cheese Bread
  6. “Bacon and Eggs”
  7. Blackened Chick’n Breast
  8. Tilapia
  9. Sauerkraut Pierogi
  10. Bobotie
  11. Roasted Verlasso Salmon
  12. Griddled “Yard Bird”
  13. Pork Goulash

Nice work!  Do you remember All in WDW’s “Top 15″ Rules for Taking on Food & Wine!?  We published it last year, here on the site, and in our free Food & Wine e-book.  You can find a link to the free book here.  Yes, my friends, I said FREE!

Anyway, let me quote Rule #14.  “Everyone’s tastes are different.  This rule is actually my favorite. It’s also the reason I LOVE the Food & Wine festival.  Everyone’s tastes are different, and I love the conversation that this fact generates.  Just keep in mind – there’s no wrong choice.  There are just different choices … based on personal taste!”

Boy, we just put on a Rule #14 clinic!  Here’s a reminder of my “Ridiculously Early” Food & Wine ’14 Top 13 …

  1. Tilapia
  2. Sea Scallop
  3. Roasted Verlasso Salmon
  4. Griddled “Yard Bird”
  5. Braised Beef
  6. Crispy Pork Belly
  7. Crispy Fried Potato Balls
  8. “Bacon and Eggs”
  9. Pork Goulash
  10. Sauerkraut Pierogi
  11. Brazilian Cheese Bread
  12. Bobotie
  13. Blackened Chick’n Breast

Like I said, different choices.  WAY different, it seems.  Where do we vary the most?

Roasted Verlasso Salmon.  You say #11.  I say #3.  I’ll chalk this to personal taste, I think.  I do like a good piece of salmon.  The group consensus, however, adds up to something between indifference to, dare I say, dislike?

Griddled “Yard Bird”.  Not feeling the “house-made habanero sauce”, are you?  I have to admit, I am a bit put off by the name – “Yard Bird”.  You say #12.  I say #4.

Tilapia.  If you hadn’t ranked the Sea Scallop reasonably high (at #4), I’d say you don’t like seafood.  When it comes to the Tilapia, you say #8.  I say #1!  You want to know why?

Epcot’s Ghost Pepper-dusted Tilapia at this past Spring’s “Food” & Garden festival was phenomenal.  I’m banking on an encore performance!

Ghost Pepper-dusted Tilapia

Brazilian Cheese Bread.  You say #5.  I say #11.  As I mentioned above, we carved 61 items down to Top 25’s.  A meat-less dish just isn’t destined to make it onto my final menu.

Blackened Chick’n Breast.  Did I mention “meat-less”?  You say #7.  I say it ends the list at #13.  Nothing against Terra’s Gardein™ Chick’n Breast, but it won’t make my final cut.

There you have it!  Our first Epcot International Food & Wine Festival menus!  I hope you guys are getting excited for September.  I certainly am!  C’mon, September 19th!  Get here!

Dining Recon: Studio Catering Co. (DFB style!)

Pressed Turkey Club

Yes!  Thank you, A.J.!  Another All in WDW appearance on DFB!

Another?  Yes.  First, A.J. published my “Photo Tour of NEW Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill at the Yacht and Beach Club Resort”.  Mrs. All in WDW and I even took Hurricane Hanna’s home!  Home?  Huh?

Then, we visited the Coronado Springs Resort’s Pepper Market with “Guest Review: Breakfast (and Creme Brulee French Toast) at Pepper Market in Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort”!

Hey!  You want French Toast?  Pepper Market will give you French Toast!  Check this out!  In fact, Kona Cafe’s Tonga Toast can take a hike as far as we’re concerned!  What?!  Well, here’s why!

This week, A.J. and Disney Food Blog’s Editor, Kim LaPaglia, honored me one more time by publishing “Guest Review: Studio Catering Co. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios”!

I want to extend my sincere thanks to these fantastic ladies.  It’s an honor to find my name in print on DFB.  I’m sincerely proud to be part of your pages!
