I might be better off calling this post a “WDW update” rather than a dining recon as this establishment has been closed for quite a while now. Hopefully this fine Quick Service will soon spring back into life. Well, it still “lives” in a manner of speaking, but it is only a shell of its old self. OK, not a shell – a tent.
In our opinion, one of the best Counter (Quick) Service meals in WDW is a turkey sandwich with chips from BoardWalk Bakery. Their turkey sandwich is huge! So large that …
… most often Mrs. All in WDW and I end up splitting the sandwich between us.
On our most recent trip to The World, we found a few minutes – in between visits to the “Food” & Garden Festival, that is – to sneak in one of those turkey “feasts” for dinner. We also got to snap some pictures of the bakery … er, “tent”. Have a look.
Sadly, there was one thing missing from this makeshift eatery’s cooler – the BoardWalk Bakery’s fabulous carrot cake. The best carrot cake on the planet, as far as we’re concerned. It is a diet-killer but SO good! I hope that little gem comes back when the bakery re-opens.
As to that re-opening, I spoke to several Cast Members but got mixed reports when it came to target dates. The consensus seemed to be end-of-April (“optimistically”) or beginning-of-May (“realistically”). And, they did use the word ‘realistically’. We’ll have to keep watching, I guess.
The bakery is going to be larger, by the way. Where’d they find space? We walked into the arcade/store attached to the ESPN Club, and that shop is MUCH smaller than it used to be. Apparently, Disney thinks the bakery is a more profitable use of real estate because there was much less room to shelve and sell sports goodies. They’re, obviously, making room for “goodies” of the cake and cookie variety!
Oh, and one last thing … one Cast Member told me that the menu is going to include some new items – such as tomato bisque and lobster rolls! Sounds outstanding, but when all is said and done, I just hope they still have that carrot cake!
