Monday Menu Mania! [Poll]

Good morning, folks!  Let’s jump into a little bit of Disney Dining, shall we?  Where, oh where, should we eat today?  Hmm.  Let’s let the boys over at the WDW Main Street Podcast give us a “jump start”!

That’s right!  Join John and Doug as they pull up a couple of stools at the Main Street Pub and discuss John’s upcoming trip to Walt Disney World!  Both Doug and I have trips on the near horizon, as well, by the way.

Episode 432 – John’s Menu Mania!

Anyway, they cover the menus from the three restaurants at which John has reservations this time around – The Hollywood Brown Derby, Cítricos, and Yachtsman Steakhouse!  What a delectable trio!

So, join them for appetizers, devour some entrees, and dine on desserts.  It’s a super-delicious episode, folks, so grab a knife and fork, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Afterwards, please let us know … at which of these three would you prefer to dine and why?  Use the poll below and leave us comments on Facebook or Twitter with your opinions!

Greetings, folks!  If you caught last Monday’s post, you’d know that Mrs. All in WDW and I just love Disney’s epic holiday gingerbread “creations”.

For example, did you catch a glimpse of the Grand Floridian’s marquee “house”?  No?  Well, catch it here …

Today, we’d encourage you to rejoin Josh of ResortTV1 as he gives us a detailed look at more of Disney’s delicious delights.

Are We Starting Off Monday with a Spicy Watermelon Margarita?!

Oh, of course not, folks.  Well, not literally, at least!  Maybe just in spirit, eh?  Or, is that … in spirits?

Anyway, not to be overdone by Evan Chaisson’s romp through the Animal Kingdom’s Nomad Lounge, I’d like to present a refreshment that we experienced – a Spicy Watermelon Margarita!

Wait a minute.  Who am I kidding?  Our one little incredibly sweet, tart, yet habanero- spicy, beverage won’t hold a candle to Evan’s epic collection of cocktails.  Check it out at …

Beverage Recon: Nomad Lounge in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Then, if that’s not enough, please check out Evan “live” and on the air as he dropped by the WDW Main Street Pub to give Doug and John an action-packed trip report!  Find that at …

Episode 409 – Evan’s Trip Report!

Having said all of that, before I get to the watermelon, I have one small piece of business to conclude.  What is that?  Well, I asked you to choose All in WDW’s Holiday Dessert, remember?

It was, oh so, close!  I was rooting for the Warm Caramel-Stuffed Salted Pretzel, I have to admit.  But, in the end, you “bought” us Epcot’s Warm Apple Fritter with Cinnamon Ice Cream and Warm Caramel Sauce!

Now, back to the “fruit” in question … watermelon!  Where can this delight be found?  In Disney’s Yacht Club!  My friends, stop in and visit the crew at … The Crew’s Cup!

Within, you’ll find a very friendly staff, warm and welcoming decor, great food, and tasty drinks!  Enjoy!

The Captain Bids Us a Fond Farewell … While the Compass Entices Us with a Menu!

It had to happen sooner or later, didn’t it, folks?  The Yacht Club’s displaced Captain’s Grille – the undeniable Walt Disney World hidden gem that had taken up residence in Ariel’s at Disney’s Beach Club Resort – is now closed.

Before we move on, let’s take once last glimpse at this esteemed venue in one of its very last days of relocation …

Fortunately, we shot those pics on a visit that we made in late August.  We were paying our final respects, as it were.  Poor Captain.  You really were so under-appreciated.

When we were in WDW a few weeks ago, Mrs. All in WDW and I stopped over to Yacht Club to check on the status of the skipper’s soon-to-be-opened replacement – Ale & Compass Restaurant.  Alas, nothing but construction walls … still.

Frankly, I thought we had a chance to catch their Opening Day!  When we made the aforementioned visit to the Captain, two Cast Members told us that Ale could be open as early as the middle of October!

Maybe the Compass will open sometime later this month, but, in the meantime, their initial menus can be found on Disney’s web site.

Click here to view Ale’s dinner menu!

For those who are interested, no breakfast buffet is listed, by the way.  Doug Davis, for one, will be very disappointed.

For my part, Ale’s dinner menu confirmed my worst fears.  My friends, the Captain’s delicious Cabernet-braised Short Rib with Sweet Corn Risotto is history.

How incredibly sad.  Replaced by Smoked Short Ribs with Vegetable Mash, what was once the very best dish on Disney property is now nothing more than Entry #4 in All in WDW’s Hall of Fame.

That’s right.  This dish was that good!  It joins Maelstrom, Off Kilter, and Wishes in our personal annals of WDW history!  Yahoo!

Having said all of that, Ale’s menu is still quite interesting.  Chowder, savory pies, a clambake.  I’m sure it will all be very tasty.  Hey, even the short ribs sound enticing.  Maybe they’ll sub me in some risotto for that mash?

Frankly, even with that unique sweet corn risotto, a smoked dish just won’t be quite the same as the Captain’s cabernet-braised masterpiece.  I’ll still give it a chance, though!  I promise, I’ll have an open mind, and I’ll try it … at some point.

Meanwhile, let’s take one last look, shall we?  Behold, my former favorite Disney dish!  A new “Hall-of-Famer”, as it were.  Yes, everyone, in late August, I did get a chance to say farewell to it, as well.  Feast on this beast!

Dining Recon: The Market at Ale & Compass! [Tons of Food Pics!]

Breakfast, my friends!  It is time for breakfast!  Actually, speaking of “time”, once upon a time, finding a decent breakfast at Disney’s Yacht Club could present a bit of challenge.

Quite simply, it meant grabbing a snack-like “grab ‘n go” at the Ale & Compass Lounge, snagging a Table Service ADR at Captain’s Grille or, even, hiking all of the way over to Beach Club Marketplace at, well, Disney’s Beach Club Resort!

Well, those days are over, now, folks!  First, let me spill this … come mid-October (if you believe the two Cast Members that I asked), the Captain will retire in favor of the Yacht Club’s Ale & Compass Restaurant.  Stay tuned for its official opening!

In the meantime, you have to check out their new Quick Service – conveniently called The Market at Ale & Compass!  For instance, take a quick look at the layout and decor …

The side entrance takes you directly into Ale’s small seating area.

The main entrance takes you into what’s left of what used to be the Yacht Club’s gift shop.

The Quick Service, itself, is directly to the left of the main entrance.

The market offers “tons” of hot and cold sandwiches, salads, snacks, beverages, and ice creams!

Pre-made hot sandwiches are available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Check out the menus and breakfast display “models” …

Gourmet Oatmeal.

Veggie Egg Wrap.

Turkey, Egg, and Cheese.

Chicken Panini.

Italian Panini.

Ham & Cheese on a Pretzel Roll.

Vegetable Panini.

Anyway, what did I eat?  I sampled Ale’s Ham and Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich.  Sadly, although its egg and ham tasted fine, I found the pretzel roll to be a big disappointment.

The hot sandwiches can be found in Ale’s Hot Display Case.  Notice the plates underneath?  Grab one.

The top was rock hard as if it were old and stale.  The bottom was soggy … likely from the grease put forth by the ham during the cooking process.

Folks, I don’t want to discourage you from stopping by this great new spot.  Frankly, one poorly prepared sandwich does not make or break a restaurant.

My advice?  Try a panini for lunch or dinner.  Alternatively, grab one of their cold sandwiches or salads.  No matter which way you go – a meal or simply a snack – dining at Disney’s Yacht Club has just taken a huge upgrade!  Great job, Disney.  Way to go!
