OUR Favorite WDW Things That Are NOT Attractions!

On the latest episode of the WDW Main Street Podcast, Doug, Dennis, and John hung out at the pub to discuss their favorite things to do … that are not attractions.

WDW Main Street – Episode #365 – Our Favorite Things That Are NOT Attractions!

Hmm.  That got me to thinking.  What are our favorite things to do that are not attractions?  Mrs. All in WDW?  What do you think?

1  –  Disney Springs

Definitely Disney Springs.  At one point, Doug Davis asked us if we were going to visit anywhere else in WDW other than Disney Springs.

Why would we?  Actually, we do go to the parks plenty, of course, but Disney has done a great job re-imagining Downtown Disney.  Here are just a few of our favorite “attractions”:

  • Paddlefish
  • The Boathouse
  • Morimoto Asia
  • Splitsville
  • Wolfgang Puck Express – Marketplace
  • Starbucks – West Side

2  –  Crescent Lake

We love, love, love, Crescent Lake … especially the BoardWalk.  Let us describe the ways!

We love a morning walk from Disney’s Hollywood Studios to the BoardWalk area.  In fact, Mrs. All in WDW really enjoys going over early in the morning for a cup of coffee and a walk.

We love lounging along Stormalong Bay.  Sometimes, we’ll buy a bottle of wine, grab a couple of outdoor chairs at the Yacht Club, and enjoy the afternoon sunshine.

Other times, we’ll pull up a stool at Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill.  A great pool view.  Friendly bartenders.  Refreshing drinks.  Yum!

Then, there are the restaurants and bars.  Great places like …

  • Belle Vue Lounge
  • ESPN Club
  • Cape May Cafe
  • Crew’s Cup Lounge
  • Captain’s Grille
  • Ale and Compass Lounge
  • Cabana Bar and Beach Club
  • Shula’s Steak House
  • Todd English’s bluezoo

3  –  Laguna Bar

In light of the massive refurbishment going on at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Mrs. All in WDW and I live in fear of Laguna’s demise.

We’ve made, what we hope to be, lifetime friends at that little lakeside bar, and it holds a very special place in our hearts.  If it survives, we’ll be overjoyed!

That’s the short list for us, folks.  How about you?  What are your favorite things that are NOT attractions?  Leave us some comments and let us know!

Dining Recon: The Turf Club Bar and Grill at Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa!

Potentially one of Walt Disney World’s best kept secrets, we’ve covered The Turf Club Bar and Grill on the WDW Main Street Podcast on a number of occasions.

Situated in the heart of Dennis Conroy’s home DVC resort – Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa – he recently named it as one of The World’s most underrated Table Service venues.  Why?  To find out, listen to …

Episode #361 – Underrated & Overrated Restaurants!

In addition, to catch up on all of the dining establishments that Disney has to offer up-and-down the Sassagoula River, tune into …

Episode #353 – Dining Down The River!

On that show, Doug Davis and Dennis team up to bring tons of great food to your “auditory” palates!

In the meantime, check this out!  Mrs. All in WDW and I got a chance to visit both the The Turf Club Lounge and The Turf Club Bar and Grill on our most-recent visit.

From the pool table to the dazzling river view.  From great service to delicious food.  We had a great time!  Definitely a hidden “gem”!  Enjoy!

After entering, you first come to The Turf Club Lounge.

Mrs. All in WDW beat me at pool, of course!

You walk to the back of the lounge in order to find The Turf Club Bar and Grill.

At first glance, the restaurant feels narrow and small.

But, then, you find more seating and …

… a beautiful view outside!

The menu is pretty diverse.

We shared the Braised Beef Short Rib appetizer. Small but delicious.

Mrs. All in WDW enjoyed the Maple-Citrus Brined Pork Chop.

Meanwhile, I was in a seafood type of mood. It was Grilled Verlasso Salmon for me.

All in all, The Turf Club delivered a very pleasant experience, my friends.  Will it rise to the top of your list of future ADRs?  Probably not.  In a pinch, however, it is a very well-kept secret.  Hey!  We’ll definitely go back!

“Paddling” to Victory! The WDW Table Service Draft Champ is Crowned!

Good morning, folks!  Happy Monday?  I know.  I’m not very happy about the fact, either.  Let’s talk about something more pleasant, shall we?  How about … Disney Dining!

Every good “competition” needs a re-cap, doesn’t it?  Well, here is my handful of “cents” as to why this past weekend’s Table Service Draft poll ended up as it did.

Did you listen to the show?  Did you vote?  Did you catch the results?  If you need some reminders, click these links …

The “Live” Podcast!
The “Scoreboard”!

What a wild ride!  You know, just after the draft ended, I found myself convinced that this was going to be an epic “horse race”.  Having said that, I was confident in my “team”.

Before I tell you why, let’s take a look at the culinary “empires” constructed by my comrades …

Dennis Conroy built an impressive collection of MY personal favorites.  The BOATHOUSE.  Rose & Crown Pub & Dining Room.  Kona Cafe.

All of them are phenomenal … and, all of them are home to some of my favorite dishes on WDW property – Firecracker Shrimp, Bangers and Mash, and Pan-Asian Noodles with Chicken!

To see pictures of these three delicacies, check out the “still being built” WDW Main Street Pub Menu!  Yum!

Hey!  But, shouldn’t Be Our Guest Restaurant have put him over-the-top?  Belle and her beast weren’t quite enough, it seems.

John Peters capitalized on the character-filled popularity of Tusker House Restaurant, Chef Mickey’s, Cape May Cafe, Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, and Cinderella’s Royal Table to power his conglomerate.

Of course, it didn’t end there.  Excellent strategy led John to claim several Signature favorites – Le Cellier Steakhouse, Flying Fish, and Victoria & Albert’s.  Strong effort, John!

With a group that included Jiko – The Cooking Place, The Hollywood Brown Derby, Morimoto Asia, Yak & Yeti Restaurant, and Spice Road Table, Doug Davis was true to his heart.  Only the “theft” of his Rose kept him from his own personal “Dream Team”.

Finally, that brings me to my “crew”.  What logic did I follow as I selected my restaurants?  Well, first, I owe Mr. Davis my thanks.

Why?  He kindly passed on my centerpiece – the “Crown Jewel” of Disney Springs.  Yes, my friends, Paddlefish led the way for my group!

I saw one comment from a reader – Curt Stone of the Geekin’ on WDW Podcast.  He summed up his feelings with, “Bob, you’re the only one with O’hana.  You win!”  Thanks, Curt!  Its selection was very intentional.

The science behind my choices was pretty straightforward, to be frank.  I mixed some traditional, old favorites – ‘Ohana, California Grill, Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Whispering Canyon Cafe, and Liberty Tree Tavern – with some brand new “attractions” – Paddlefish and Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’.

At the same time, I worked hard to cover the spectrum of cuisines and experiences – seafood, character opportunities, buffets, Signature dining, Italian, steakhouse, homestyle, barbecue, and bowling!

What did that all get me?  Well, it certainly was a clear-cut recipe for a hard-fought victory!

My friends, thank you from all four of us for your dedicated participation over the last few days.  We hope you enjoyed the show.  We hope you had fun with the vote!  See ya’ again … sometime really soon!

Pick the “Winner”! It’s the 2017 WDW Table Service Restaurant Draft! VOTE!

It’s Friday, folks!  Yahoo!  So.  How should we celebrate?  Well, with a good old traditional All in WDW poll, of course!

Let me ask you this … have you had a chance to catch our last show?  What?!  You haven’t?  Oh, you have to listen to this one …

WDW Main Street – Episode #350 – The EPIC Disney Table Service Restaurant Draft!

It’s phenomenal!  Trust me.  Why?  It was a controversy-filled blast!  For instance, which restaurant did I steal from Dennis?

It was ten rounds of fun-filled banter, my friends.  During which, we each tried to build the best collection of restaurants in “The World”!
