This one’s going to be short and sweet, my friends. Looks great, but, whether in the meat or the beans, I didn’t find much flavor in Florida Fresh’s Carne Guisada with Black Bean Cake. I’d recommend you take a pass in favor of other festival items.
Another pleasant surprise, folks! Actually, I hadn’t sampled Cider House’s Cheddar Cheese Biscuit with Smoked Salmon Tartare in years. Why? I’m not a huge fan of smoked salmon. Having said that, this wasn’t so bad!
You know, some people call this presentation of tartare unappealing. The fact is that the biscuit truly carries the item. Crispy on the outside and warm and flaky within, it is delicious! Hey, it’s hard to pass by a “cheddar cheese biscuit” anyway, you know!
First, let’s talk about the portion of Beef Tenderloin Tips that I received. In short, if you like mashed potatoes and pearl onions, it was passably OK. The beef? Well, do you like beef-flavored “rocks”?
Now, let’s discuss the serving that my friend, John Peters, received one day later. For him, the tips were tender and delicious. Hah. Folks, if you want to play Northern Bloom’s game of beef roulette, go ahead. I’m going to pass.
Back to the pancakes, baby! Like I said yesterday, Germany did a great job with both of their pancake dishes this year. Of the two, however, their Potato Pancake with Ham, Onions, and Sour Cream was my favorite.
Very tasty, I recommend that you give it a chance. I will point out, though, that where yesterday’s apple sauce version delivers two cakes, this savory version presents only one. Nonetheless, it was very good! I’d buy it again.
Let’s continue “our” journey through 2018’s “Food” & Garden festival on a high note, shall we? Japan’s Teriyaki Salmon was outstanding!
Honestly, if I have anything critical to say it is that the portion size was way too small. As well as the dish was prepared, and as tasty as the Teriyaki Sauce melded with the rice and fish, I would have loved a full-size entrée! Great job, Hanami!
