Rehabilitate? Or, Eliminate? – Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover!

I’ll cover the results tomorrow.  In the meantime, I took a quick look back at some rehabilitation history.  My friends, I think I have been unwittingly picking on Tomorrowland!

Including this week’s TTA effort, over the years, we’ve completed ten Re-Imagineering “projects”.  Ten.  Of those ten, three of them involved Tomorrowland attractions!

Back in 2015, we dealt with Stitch’s Great Escape in decisive fashion.  Nearly 75% of you declared that the lovable(?) alien’s ride must be eliminated!  Only 6% of you suggested it be left completely alone.

To all appearances, Disney took our advice to heart as Stitch has reportedly closed – as of January 6th – to make way for a new, yet-to-be-announced, attraction.

Then, just last month, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin fell into our “gun sights”.  We surely love that little astronaut.  Only 11% of you declared for elimination.  However, the majority (over 65%) cried “rehabilitate”!

At first, I wasn’t quite sure why I chose two Tomorrowland rides in back-to-back months.  It was quite subconscious, I can assure you.  But, then, I started thinking about the land’s attractions.

• Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
• Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
• Space Mountain
• Stitch’s Great Escape!
• Tomorrowland Speedway
• Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
• Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress

Depending on how you look at their various versions, five of these eight have existed in some form (or name) for over forty years!  Forty!  Oh, yes, I know that they’re all considered to be iconic.  But, come on!

Look, I understand that Carousel has to stay.  It is Walt, after all.  Yesterday’s voting demonstrated that you clearly love TTA.  In spite of unsubstantiated rumors of its demise, Space Mountain is an icon.  How can we deny that?

Having said all of that, will Tron Lightcycle Power Run (if that’s what it’ll be called) be enough to rescue Tomorrowland from “Yesteryear”?  That’s my question, I guess.

Disney is rehabilitating, what seems like, every acre of Walt Disney World these days.  Should we be picking on Tomorrowland?  In my opinion, I think we should.  It’s long in the tooth.  Why shouldn’t we “target” it?  I bet that Disney already is.
