The Complete Re-Theming of Hollywood Studios? Uh, Excuse Me, What?!!!

First of all, let’s “handle” yesterday’s trivia.  Those of you who answered “Six Stars and Two Moons”.  You know your Studios!

Now that we’ve cleared that up, I’m ready to go off the “deep end” a little bit.  Let me tell you what I think is in store for Disney’s “park in transition”!

Do I have some insight into what Disney is planning?  Uh, no.  What I have is a bunch of wild personal speculation and a pack of crazy unfounded predictions.  Just remember, if any of this comes true, you heard it here first!

Here goes …

Hollywood Boulevard stays the same as it is today, including The Trolley Car Cafe and all the shops and stores.

In fact, Hollywood will remain the same all the way back to the Chinese Theater!  Yes, my friends, a completely updated movie ride will survive to entertain the next few generations of WDW fans!

Planning to stroll down Sunset Boulevard?  This is where we’ll see the “old” Hollywood Studios.  This will be the only remaining section of the park that will be reminiscent of cinema days gone by.

The Hollywood Brown Derby.  Starring Rolls.  The Citizens of Hollywood?  They’ll all remain as part of this “Sunset Strip”.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror?  It’ll be left alone.  Good thing, too, since it is the All in WDW Readers’ Favorite Hollywood Studios Attraction!

The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith?  Yeah, it’ll be completely re-themed.  Sorry, fans.  Aerosmith doesn’t fit into the vision of a throw-back, retro 50’s-ish “Studios”.

Fortunately, Fantasmic! will remain “as is” … with one exception.  They’ll add a symbolic, if much-smaller, replica of “my” Sorcerer’s Hat to the area … somewhere.  I hope.

Oh.  Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage?  Uh, time for a fabulous Frozen spectacular!  Doesn’t necessarily fit in with the “throw-back” theme of the area, but, well, you know that Frozen will be somewhere!

As part of Hollywood, Vine, and Sunset’s efforts to retain the “old” Studios’ aura, the Tune-In Lounge, 50’s Prime Time Cafe, and Hollywood & Vine will live to see “tomorrow”.  Yay!

Consumed by Star Wars Land, however, Echo Lake, Min and Bill’s Dockside Diner, Indiana Jones, and Commissary Lane won’t be so lucky.  Gone!

Star Wars Land will stretch from Indiana Jones, through Echo Lake and Commissary Lane, all the way back to the Streets of America.  You know what that means?  Bye, bye, Osborne Lights.

So, what, other than Star Tours will fill Star Wars Land?  Think Tattooine.  Coruscant.  Hoth.

Ever hear of Podracing?  Are you familiar with Universal Studios’ Potter-style broomstick ride?  Yes?  Now, imagine it as a Star Wars podracer!

Pod Racing

How about a “Jedi Training Academy” that accommodates Guests of all ages?

Imagine this … you’re randomly selected to be trained by a Jedi or a Sith Lord.  After your training is complete, you face off, one-on-one, in a virtual light saber battle with a Guest of the opposite “side”!

Surely the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater will fit in with Luke, Han, Chewbacca, and the gang?  Kind of.  The “cars” will be converted to land speeders.  The films that are shown will all be Star Wars-related.

Mama Melrose’s will become the Mos Eisley Cantina.  What?!

What happens to Writer’s Stop?  It’ll be moved to a slightly-expanded Animation Courtyard to join … Muppets!  Yes, the courtyard will be retained as an homage to Disney animation across the ages and Muppets will move in!

Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream and The Magic of Disney Animation will live on.  Muppets will replace Voyage of the Little Mermaid.  Disney Junior will be replaced by a live show starring Mickey, himself, and the rest of the Fab Five!

Pixar Place will stretch all the way back to consume the space vacated by Studio Backlot Tour and Lights, Motors, Action!  Tons of room for an expanded Toy Story Midway Mania and a pile of new attractions, eh?

How about Up, for example?  Imagine a hot-air balloon attraction … similar to Characters In Flight in “Disney Springs”.

I also imagine an action-packed Incredibles dark-ride attraction.  A Cars-based roller coaster!  WALL-E?  Ratatouille?

Borrowing from Disneyland’s “Monsters, Inc. – Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!”, how about “Escape from Monstropolis!”?  It’ll be another exciting dark-ride attraction.

Including a relocated Pizza Planet, I see several new Counter and Table Service venues.

I could go on and on, my friends, but this is certainly much more than enough for today.

What do you think?  Help me fill in the gaps.  What do you want to see in a Star Wars-focused land?  What pieces of Pixar do you want to see come to life?  Leave comments and let us all know!

  1. Star Wars expanded, Yes Yes and oh um…. Yes!!! That would be fantastic. To be completely honest it all sounds fantastic. Although we do enjoy the Aerosmith ride it could be cool to see it re-themed.

  2. I’d love to see a trackless ride in there somewhere, too. It’s about time this technology was brought to WDW! Hopefully it would be a complete original, rather than a clone of one already at one of the other parks, and perhaps it could be a second e-ticket to help distributed the crowds amongst Star Wars land. If only there was an infinite budget!

  3. Aerosmith is my favorite all time band but I know Disney will likely retheme it to a more contemporary band/group. We love The Writers Stop but something tells me it will not survive the massive reconstruction the Studios is about to under go!

I am not a huge fan of Star Wars. However, DHS I is my 4th favorite Park so I’m in favor of anything at this point.
