The 2015 All in WDW Epcot “Food” & Garden Pre-Festival Top 15 – The Bottom Half!

As I look at Dennis Conroy’s Top 15 – posted here yesterday – I notice just how different his menu is from mine.  Six items different!  Six!

Oh, you’ll see the details of All in WDW’s “dining plan” over the next two days, but there are six items on his “target list” that don’t even come close to making mine!

I only make this point because I want to remind you of one of the most important “rules” of food festivals …

Everyone’s tastes are different!  I love the conversation that this generates, by the way.  Keep in mind – there are no wrong choices.  There are just different choices … based on personal taste!

All of Epcot’s food is great!  What you pick to eat depends on what you like!

Well, my friends, I spent more than enough time telling you what we won’t be eating at this year’s Epcot Flower (er, Food) & Garden Festival … didn’t I?  More than you needed, perhaps.

So, what will be on our menu in 2015?

As always, I’m going to start at the bottom of the Top 15 and work my way up to the pinnacle of the list.  So, here goes!

#15 – Falafel Pocket – Taste of Marrakesh

Falafel.  A deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both.  Thanks, Wikipedia!

Well, I do like chickpeas.  The only concerns I have with this item is the pita, itself, and the overall bread-to-content ratio of the serving.

The last time I had one of Morocco’s pitas, it was very dry and the bread overpowered the contents of the dish.

#14 – Seafood Ceviche – Botanas Botánico

A ceviche of shrimp, scallops, and grouper served with mango and avocado.  Hmm.

It’s not the first thing I’d think to order, but Botanas Botánico is a brand new Outdoor Kitchen.  I think their dishes deserve at least one shot!

#13 – Osaka Salmon Sushi – Hanami

Mrs. All in WDW would tell you that, if I were only able to eat one type of food for the rest of my days, it would either be a pepperoni and sausage pizza … or a volcano roll from just about anywhere.

I do like sushi.  Truth be told, I prefer tuna to salmon, but this dish was destined to make my Top 15!

#12 – Watermelon Salad – Florida Fresh

I always seem to underestimate this one.  It definitely is a very tasty and refreshing bite.

Is it a true entree, however?  It’s more of an appetizer, in my mind, and, therefore, always seems to land at the lower end of my list.  It does make the menu, though!

#11 – Achiote-marinated Pork Corn Tortilla – Jardin de Fiestas

The corn tortilla holds this one back, in my opinion.  The pork, itself, however, was quite good in 2014.

Sadly, for me, the tortilla’s aftertaste was a bit of a “turn off”.  If only they would put this on a flour tortilla … I’d be ecstatic!

#10 – Spicy Hot Dog – Pineapple Promenade

I’m basing this dish’s ranking on the phenomenal-tasting Kimchi Dog served by South Korea at Epcot’s past two Food & Wine festivals.

Although not nearly so “exotic”, Pineapple Promenade’s “dog” is billed as coming with a sriracha mayo.  That really piques my interest.

Hey!  I don’t care if it’s just a hot dog!  I can’t wait to try it!

#9 – Cachapas with Farmer’s Cheese – Botanas Botánico

Cachapas.  A traditional Venezuelan and Colombian dish, cachapas are pancakes of fresh corn dough.  Thanks, again, Wikipedia!

I imagine something like this …

Cachapa

Looks really good, eh?  Well, it does, to me, at least.  Sign me up, Botanas!

OK, my friends … there, you have it!  The bottom half, more or less, of the 2015 All in WDW Epcot “Food” & Garden Festival Top 15!

Tomorrow, we’ll complete the list with #’s 1 to 8!  Have a great day!
