Grab That Suitcase, Folks! It’s Gurgling (Getting?) Away!

Wow!  What a victory!

Old Key West fans rose up in force to deliver a decisive victory to Gurgling Suitcase Libations & Spirits – our inaugural All in WDW Readers’ Favorite WDW Pool Bar!

I have to admit, I am a slight bit surprised.  Why?  Well, knowing the popularity of Disney’s Beach and Yacht Clubs – as well as Stormalong Bay (their signature pool) – I was certain that Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill would take the “prize”!

True, Hanna did finish in 2nd, but, realistically, it never had a chance.  Gurgling leaped out fast and far and didn’t look back!  I’ll say it again … wow!

What makes the Suitcase so popular?  For us, it’s the “outside while you’re inside” feel of the place.  We love the open doors!

Of course, the view doesn’t hurt …

And, the decorations are quite nice …

A smallish spot, the bartenders are very friendly.  The beer is ice cold.  And, the food is good.

By the way, you can order off of the Suitcase’s own bar menu or from Olivia’s Cafe (it is attached).  In addition, Good’s Food to Go is right next door.

Before I move on, let me pass along one more small piece of advice …

If you’re craving a lunch-time beverage and a seat at the bar, drop in at opening “bell” – 11:30 AM.  Space can be very limited!

So, my friends, let’s close with one last important piece of business … the All in WDW Readers’ Top 10 Favorite WDW Pool Bars!

VOTE For Your Favorite WDW Pool Bars! It’s Day 2 (The Finale!)

Welcome to Monday, folks!  Yes, as it’s prone to do … it’s back again.

Well, at least we can start the week off with a little bit of fun.  I mean, what better way to start a day than with an All in WDW poll!  Oh, OK.  I guess we could actually be in WDW!

Anyway, getting straight to business – because I know you’re all quite busy – let’s talk about today’s task.  Thirteen venues did well enough in yesterday’s 1st Round of voting to make their way into today’s BIG finale!

IMG_9882

Below, you can VOTE for as many as SIX of those “survivors”.  Yes, your “ballot” can include up to six!  Choose your favorites.  Or, select those bars that you haven’t been to yet but would like to try!

In the end, we’ll “elect” an All in WDW Readers’ Favorite WDW Pool Bar!  We’ll also create our list of recommendations … our All in WDW Readers’ Top 10 Favorite WDW Pool Bars!

Thanks for your participation these past two days, my friends!  Have a great week!

Wait! You Forgot Laguna Bar! Readers’ Favorite WDW Pool Bars! VOTE!

Good morning, my friends!  I hope you’re having a great weekend!  Have some fun in the sun, if you can.  I know there’s a bunch of rain going on out there.

I promised you this little “contest” a few days back.  Sorry for the tardiness with bringing it your way.  Frankly, it took a lot more work than I expected to compile the list of “competitors”.  I’m glad I was finally able to pull it together.

WDW pool bars.  Right off the top, one of the things that Mrs. All in WDW noticed was that our beloved favorite – the Coronado Springs Resort’s Laguna Bar – is missing from the list.  What?!

Laguna Alive

We just LOVE Laguna Bar!

My Seat at Laguna

Well, I reminded her, it’s not technically a “pool bar”.  It’s a bar by a lake!  And, you don’t want to go swimming in that lake.  The turtles are cute, but it also hosts some little ‘gators.  They’ve got chomp!

Where we do feel that Laguna Bar is the best outdoor bar on Walt Disney World property, it just doesn’t qualify for the title All in WDW Readers’ Favorite WDW Pool Bar!  Having said that, one of these other “pubs” will!

Your job today is to VOTE!  I present you with two groups of THIRTEEN bars, each, below.  You can select up to SIX in each group.  Yes, I said, up to six.  You can cast as many as TWELVE votes today!

Now, I know what some of you might be thinking.  Bob, we go to the same resort every visit, so we’ve only been to one of these bars.  Or, Bob, we’ve been to a few of these but not twelve of them!  Or, Bob, we don’t visit pool bars.

Folks, that’s OK!  I don’t think that we’ve been to twelve of these places either!  All this poll desires is that you VOTE for those bars that you can.  Hey, VOTE for the bars that you haven’t been to but would like to try!

The Top 6 vote-getters in each of today’s two groups will proceed into tomorrow’s finale.  It’s there that, from amongst the twelve remaining “combatants”, we’ll “crown” a victor.

I’m anxious to see how this plays out.  It’s the first time we’ve tackled WDW’s pool bars, and I’m curious to see our Top 10.  What ten poolside beverage spots will we recommend to friends and family alike?  Let’s see!

Dining Recon: Cabana Bar and Beach Club at the Dolphin … Revisited!

Every once in a while, Mrs. All in WDW and I get the urge to stop by and enjoy one of our old favorites – in this case, the Dolphin’s Cabana Bar.

IMG_8912

Set way in the back, by the resort’s main pool area, Cabana is a great place to sit outside and relax … without being completely drenched by the rays of the sun.

For us, Cabana Bar and Beach Club is one of Disney’s hidden gems.  We hadn’t been there in forever!

Like I said in my last “recon” – stop back for a full array of pics at this link – we really enjoy the bar’s “your outside, but it doesn’t quite feel like you’re outside” atmosphere!

One of the pleasant surprises we received on this particular visit was the fact that they’ve “tweaked” their menu.  They’ve added a lot of tasty options, as far as my eye can see.

I was salivating over the prospect of having the Schnitzel, but, alas, we had lunch plans elsewhere that day.  I’ll admit … the dishes are a bit pricey, but we’ve always found Cabana’s food to be quite good.

On this day, we quenched our appetite with a quick bite – their Lettuce Wrap.

We were wondering how they could possibly charge $12 for a single lettuce wrap, but the dish’s unique construction and presentation easily answered that question.

The flavor (er, spice) could have been a bit stronger.  The filling could have been a bit better.  But, using an iceberg lettuce wrap to construct a “sushi” roll is incredibly interesting, wouldn’t you agree?

I can’t even begin to scratch the surface on the reasons why you should give Cabana Bar at least one try, but if you crave a nice “high-class feeling” spot “outside”, this might be your destination.

Are you a fan of the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resorts?  Have you been to their Cabana Bar and Beach Club?  Leave a comment and tell us your Swan, Dolphin, and Cabana stories!

Dining Recon: Cabana Bar and Beach Club at the Dolphin

So, I have a word of advice for you … if you’re planning to attend the opening day and weekend of Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival this coming September, you had better get your room booked.

The festival starts Friday, September 19th, and Mrs. All in WDW and I decided to get our arrangements in place this past weekend.  Sadly, it didn’t matter whether we tried to use the Disney Fall discount or not, there wasn’t much available that didn’t cost a nightly fortune!

Lucky for us, we were able to get a very reasonable rate on an Epcot fireworks view room at the Dolphin.  Which, by the way, brings me to today’s story.

For us, one of Disney’s hidden gems is Cabana Bar and Beach Club at, you guessed it, the Dolphin!

We have been there several times.  Usually perched on a seat at the bar, we really enjoy Cabana’s “your outside, but it doesn’t quite feel like you’re outside” atmosphere.  The food is a little bit pricey, but it’s very good.

Maybe Cabana’s not a “stop in every time you visit WDW” type of place, but it’s certainly worth a try or two!

Here’s a tour of the decor, menu, and cuisine.  I hope you enjoy.  I can tell you one thing, when Mrs. All in WDW and I get there in September, we will!

Trying to be a bit on the adventurous side, I tried the Korean BBQ Beef Sliders.

They were great!
