Wow! Now, We Have 400 Reasons to Celebrate!

What a milestone we celebrate today, folks!  With this post, the WDW Main Street Podcast celebrates its 400th episode!

Wow!  400?!  Are you kidding me?  Who can talk that much for that long?  Um, the answer to that question will reveal itself to you in just a few seconds.

Naturally, I didn’t personally participate in all 400 shows.  Not even close.  Neither has John Peters, for that matter.  Even our retired colleague – Dennis Conroy – came on board well after the podcast was born.

Who can talk that much for that long?  The show’s founder and host, of course.  Yes, it is Doug Davis who has that incredible “gift of gab”.

Doug and I at Laguna Bar!

Main Street was his brain-child.  He’s hosted or co-hosted every single episode.  In truth, it is Doug that deserves all the credit for this feat!  Congratulations, Doug!  What a phenomenal accomplishment!

My friends, join John and myself, as we congratulate Doug.  Attend our little party.  Step into the WDW Main Street Pub and listen to …

Episode #400 – 400 Reasons to Celebrate!

Ladies’ Night @ the WDW Main Street Pub!

Step into the WDW Main Street Pub, my friends, for a … not-so-run-of-the-mill experience!  It’s “lady’s night”, folks!  Hey!  You can’t miss this!  How often do we get “proof positive” that our compadre, Doug Davis, isn’t always right?

Pull up a chair and listen to Carmen, Judith, and Jen as they educate Doug and John on all things Walt Disney World.  What’re their favorite attractions, resorts, and restaurants?  Find it out by listening to …

Dining Recon: Sanaa’s Indian-style Bread Service!

By Evan Chaisson

Let’s just say that I have been a lifelong Disney fan and had never before experienced Sanaa at Animal Kingdom’s Kidani Village.

In fact, it has taken me seven years to convince my wife to try this restaurant, folks.  We finally did, and the results were amazing!

First impressions?  Theming was outstanding, cleanliness was fantastic, and the service was impeccable!  Enough with the small talk, though, let’s get into the food!

When most people think of Sanaa, the first thing that comes to mind is the restaurant’s outstanding bread service.  All Disney fans know what that means … Indian-style Bread Service!

They do serve five types of bread and they range from those with no heat to some with a little bite.  They are …

  • Traditional Naan
  • Garlic-Ginger Naan
  • Spiced Naan
  • Onion Kucha
  • Paneer Paratha

You can choose one of them or you can pick all five!  We elected to go with one of each.

They also offer tons of dipping sauces … ranging from mild to extremely hot.  We had to sample them all!  They include …

  • Roasted Red Pepper Hummus
  • Mango Chutney
  • Tomato-Date Jam
  • Tamarind Chutney
  • Coriander Chuntey
  • Garlic Pickle
  • Red Chile Sambal
  • Spicy Jalapeño-Lime Pickle

My wife’s response after she enjoyed this feast?  “Why did you wait seven years to take me here?  I love it!  Can we come back”?  Oh, you bet we can!  That’s music to my Mickey ears!

Visit Michael Symon’s “Bar Symon”!

Every once in a very great while, I have to indulge myself with a post that has nothing to do with Disney.  But, wait!  Doesn’t Michael Symon have a tie to Disney?

He surely does!  After all, he and his buddies have had an influence on the last two Epcot International Food & Wine Festivals!  Of course, I’m referring to his show – The Chew.

Although I was (very vocally) not a fan of The Chew’s Food & Wine efforts over the last two years, I am still a big fan of Chef Symon.  Hey!  Us Cleveland boys have to stick together!

Anyway, take my advice, if you ever visit C-Town, drop by Michael Symon’s flagship restaurant – Lola Bistro.  The Beef Cheek Pierogi are other-worldly and are a very strong “Must-Do”!

In the meantime, I have another place for you to visit – if you pop through the Pittsburgh or Washington Dulles International airports, that is.

Offering a break from busy airport travel, “meet” Bar Symon!  From award-winning burgers to potato and cheese pierogi with kielbasa, it’s provides another “have to have it” meal.

I got the chance to grab lunch at the Pittsburgh restaurant while on a trip several weeks back.  From a delicious Great Lakes Brewing Company Beer to Chef’s great burgers and fries, I’d visit again and again!  Delicious!

Dining Recon: Breakfast at Olivia’s

I’m on my way back to Disney Springs, folks.  I really am.  Having said that, welcome to Disney’s Old Key West Resort!

A great place, it’s home to one of our favorite spots – the Gurgling Suitcase!  The suitcase is a great indoor (while you feel like you’re outdoors) watering hole.  Take a look here!

But, today isn’t about Disney bars.  It’s about delicious breakfasts!  It’s also about a little-known and under-appreciated restaurant.  My friends, meet Olivia’s!

After a morning walk through Disney Springs, Mrs. All in WDW and I found ourselves hungry for breakfast.  Desiring a relaxing sit-down experience, we found ourselves visiting Olivia.

Olivia’s is a very welcoming locale with great nautical decor!

Headlined by a phenomenal Loaded Key West Bloody Mary, their menu is loaded with options!

Wow! That really IS loaded!

Mrs. All in WDW enjoyed her choice.  One of Olivia’s delicious omelets.  Basically, it was the Monroe Egg White Omelet but with whole eggs and without cheese.

I was enticed by, what I felt was, a much more unique dish … Crab Cake Eggs Benedict.  Mmmm.  Did someone say “crab cake”?

img_3807

I don’t think it was the best breakfast I’ve ever had – Trattoria al Forno still owns that honor – but it was very good.  Definitely not your ‘run of the mill’ preparation, it’s worth having at least once.

My friends, Olivia’s is, pretty much, a well-kept secret.  But, then, Disney’s Old Key West Resort is under-appreciated as well.

If you find yourself out and about and in need of a meal, pay a visit to Olivia.  She does a great job!  We should keep her in mind!
