Visit Michael Symon’s “Bar Symon”!

Every once in a very great while, I have to indulge myself with a post that has nothing to do with Disney.  But, wait!  Doesn’t Michael Symon have a tie to Disney?

He surely does!  After all, he and his buddies have had an influence on the last two Epcot International Food & Wine Festivals!  Of course, I’m referring to his show – The Chew.

Although I was (very vocally) not a fan of The Chew’s Food & Wine efforts over the last two years, I am still a big fan of Chef Symon.  Hey!  Us Cleveland boys have to stick together!

Anyway, take my advice, if you ever visit C-Town, drop by Michael Symon’s flagship restaurant – Lola Bistro.  The Beef Cheek Pierogi are other-worldly and are a very strong “Must-Do”!

In the meantime, I have another place for you to visit – if you pop through the Pittsburgh or Washington Dulles International airports, that is.

Offering a break from busy airport travel, “meet” Bar Symon!  From award-winning burgers to potato and cheese pierogi with kielbasa, it’s provides another “have to have it” meal.

I got the chance to grab lunch at the Pittsburgh restaurant while on a trip several weeks back.  From a delicious Great Lakes Brewing Company Beer to Chef’s great burgers and fries, I’d visit again and again!  Delicious!

Dining Recon: Breakfast at Olivia’s

I’m on my way back to Disney Springs, folks.  I really am.  Having said that, welcome to Disney’s Old Key West Resort!

A great place, it’s home to one of our favorite spots – the Gurgling Suitcase!  The suitcase is a great indoor (while you feel like you’re outdoors) watering hole.  Take a look here!

But, today isn’t about Disney bars.  It’s about delicious breakfasts!  It’s also about a little-known and under-appreciated restaurant.  My friends, meet Olivia’s!

After a morning walk through Disney Springs, Mrs. All in WDW and I found ourselves hungry for breakfast.  Desiring a relaxing sit-down experience, we found ourselves visiting Olivia.

Olivia’s is a very welcoming locale with great nautical decor!

img_3798

Headlined by a phenomenal Loaded Key West Bloody Mary, their menu is loaded with options!

img_3800

img_3802

Wow! That really IS loaded!

Mrs. All in WDW enjoyed her choice.  One of Olivia’s delicious omelets.  Basically, it was the Monroe Egg White Omelet but with whole eggs and without cheese.

img_3804

I was enticed by, what I felt was, a much more unique dish … Crab Cake Eggs Benedict.  Mmmm.  Did someone say “crab cake”?

img_3807

I don’t think it was the best breakfast I’ve ever had – Trattoria al Forno still owns that honor – but it was very good.  Definitely not your ‘run of the mill’ preparation, it’s worth having at least once.

My friends, Olivia’s is, pretty much, a well-kept secret.  But, then, Disney’s Old Key West Resort is under-appreciated as well.

If you find yourself out and about and in need of a meal, pay a visit to Olivia.  She does a great job!  We should keep her in mind!

Reader “Dining Recon”: Yachtsman Steakhouse!

Good Monday, my friends!  Welcome to the beginning of another busy week!  Food & Wine voting will make its return in a few days!  Stay tuned!

In the meantime, All in WDW would like to thank one of our loyal readers for presenting us with this brief “tour” through one of Disney’s most-acclaimed restaurants – Yachtsman Steakhouse!

A first time visit for our friend, he described his experience as “Terrific.  Best meal on property … ever.  Best service, too.”

Their menu is quite diverse …

img_4152

Personally, one of the things that caught my eye was the restaurant’s bread service.  Seems pretty straightforward, eh?

img_4155

Well, you won’t be simply buttering this bread.  Check out the Roasted Garlic!  Yum!

img_4154

img_4154

On this evening, though, the Yachtsman’s 12-oz Prime New York Strip Steak served with a Peppercorn-Brandy Sauce and accompanied by Potato Gratin was the star!

img_4153

img_4153

The verdict?  The steak was “perfectly prepared and quite excellent”!

img_4156

Dinner was capped off with a Lime Semifreddo.  Meringue, guava, graham cracker toffee, and blackberry.  Mmmm.  Our friend “adored the dessert”!

img_4157

Mrs. All in WDW and I have been to the Yachtsman only once … several years ago.  To be truthful, our experience, then, was less than stellar.  For the prices, we expected much more.

Having seen this review, though, we’re adding the restaurant back to our target list.  It’s always good to give a place a second chance, after all!

Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort!  One of your fellow readers gives it a double “thumbs up”.  If you haven’t given it a try, maybe you should.  We will!

Join the Crew! Dining Recon: Crew’s Cup Lounge!

Mrs. All in WDW and I don’t visit the Crew’s Cup Lounge at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort often enough.  How about you?  Have you ever been there?

img_3183

img_3182

It’s a bit of a small place, to be honest.  Seating can be hard to snag!  If you’re looking for a quick mid-day escape from the hot, Florida sun, however, it’s a great spot.

img_3178

One tip, though?  You might want to avoid it at dinner time.  The Cup gets quite busy when Guests are waiting for their tables at the attached Yachtsman Steakhouse!

Having said all that, do you want to know the thing I love the most about this great place?  Although the lounge sports its own little menu, you can order this …

img_3179

True, you have to wait until the tail end of the afternoon – I was able to order mine a little before 5 PM or so – but you can reach over to the Captain’s Grille’s menu for a serving of this masterpiece!

Yes, on many occasions, I have unabashedly named the Captain’s Cabernet-braised Short Rib as the very best meal on all of Walt Disney World property.  Accompanied by Corn Risotto, Pan Jus Reduction, and Corn Cream, it is that good.

My friends, if you stop into the Crew’s Cup Lounge, Yachtsman Steakhouse, or Captain’s Grille, you’ll be pleased.  You can’t go wrong with Yacht Club dining!

Whether you’re staying at the resort or not, give their culinary establishments a chance.  You will not be disappointed!
