Not Your Every Day “On the Way to Work” Breakfast!

By John Peters

Hi, there!  Long time, no “see”, eh?  Anyway, I’m glad to be back!  Let me present “Dining Recon: Breakfast at The Mara”!

Hey, I recently had a Sunday morning shift over on the train at Animal Kingdom.  Trouble is … that’s when we record the WDW Main Street Podcast!  What to do?

Listen to the show at … Episode 421 – Our Sunday News!

How about recording from the Animal Kingdom Lodge, I thought!  What an awesome idea!  Anyway, instead of stopping at a fast-food joint on the way into work, I decided to eat at The Mara!

For those who don’t know, The Mara is the Animal Kingdom Lodge’s counter service restaurant.  Their bakery opens at 6:00 AM. The kitchen starts serving at 7:00.

Quoting Disney, “Named for a river flowing through Kenya and Tanzania, this savanna-like space serves African stew, pitas, half-chicken dinners and more.”

The Mara is clean, efficient, and offers plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

For breakfast, the menu includes many traditional items … such as WDW’s infamous Bounty Platter! They also serve a Croissant Sandwich.

They also offer one of my favorite breakfasts on property – the Bobotie Platter.  This dish comes with bobotie (baked egg custard with turkey, peppers, and raisins), chakalaka, and pap.

The chakalaka is the hot stewed tomatoes in the picture above.  The pap is like white grits.  Honestly, it’s non-traditional, but the combination of these three, eaten together, is delicious!  Priced at $7.19, it’s also a good deal!

Fans, the next time your heading over to Animal Kingdom, why not swing by the Animal Kingdom Lodge and have a great, inexpensive breakfast!

Quick Service “Recon”: Sunshine Seasons

OK, enough with Disney Springs for the moment, yes?  Hah!  I just realized that four of my last five posts were dedicated to “downtown”!  Time to visit somewhere “new”!

On our last trip to “The World”, I couldn’t resist one last cruise through Food & Wine.  Pork sliders, lamb meatballs, scallops, pork belly, and pierogi.  Yum!

Now, Mrs. All in WDW, on the other hand, had something else in mind.  She made a beeline for one of our favorite quick service venues – Future World’s Sunshine Seasons!

Sunshine

What did she have on her menu?  Sunshine’s $13.99 Slow Roasted Pork Chop is one of her overall favorite WDW meals.

Normally served with mashed potatoes, barbecue sauce, and corn on the cob, Mrs. All in WDW chose to sub in a delicious-looking pile of green beans.  She loved it!

My friends, back in 2014, we all elected Sunshine Seasons as our Favorite WDW Parks Quick Service Restaurant!  With meals as good as this, it’s an honor well earned.

When you find yourself in Epcot – hungry for a quick and relatively inexpensive meal – take a stroll in the “sunshine”!  Visit Sunshine Seasons.  You won’t be sorry!

Craving a Nacho “Overload”?! Visit the Pepper Market!

For us, the Pepper Market found at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is one of Walt Disney World’s best resort-located Quick Service venues.  It offers a bit of everything!

Its menu is adorned with morsels such as roasted chicken, BBQ ribs, baked pasta, and a variety of “designer” burgers.

You can select a crab cake sandwich, a Philly cheese steak, or choose from a plethora of pizzas, cold sandwiches, or salads!

Perhaps the most popular food station within the market’s walls, however, serves up Mexican Specialties.  Tacos, enchiladas, empanadas, the lines are always long.

Of their offerings, though, many Guests gravitate to Pepper’s $10.59 Market Nachos.  Nacho “overload”?  How about over-loaded nachos?!

A very generous helping of corn tortilla chips layered with chicken or beef, cheese sauce, refried beans, and your choice of toppings, it is more than a meal!

Very shareable, and pretty inexpensive (all things considered), it’s a really good dish!

Staying at Coronado sometime soon?  Drop by Pepper Market.  Many things to choose from … great nachos to load up on!

Menu “Recon”: Pizzafari

Good morning, my friends!  I sorted through a “pile” of old pictures on my iPhone last night, and I realized that I’m way-past overdue to spend some time in Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

So, without further delay, let’s see what my dusty files have been hiding from us!  We’ll start with a simple menu “recon”.  Folks?  Here are a few shots of a popular Quick Service … it’s Pizzafari!

So, I have a few “quick” questions for you …

Have you ever been to Pizzafari?  If you have, what’s your opinion of this popular pizza joint?  And, regardless of whether you’ve been there or not, take a look at their menu … what would you order?

Respond via the polls below!  See ya’ really soon, everyone!

Photo “Recon”: Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade

Good morning, my friends!  Let’s stay in Frontierland for one more day, OK?  In fact, we’ll stop by for a quick photo tour of the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade in a second or two.

First, though, I’d like to flash back to yesterday’s conversation.  Pecos Bill.  “Menu meltdown?”  “Long overdue overhaul?”  Well, you certainly did decide which phrase fit best!

The bottom line is that Disney should listen to our “voices”!  As of this morning, 63% of us have screamed, “Bring back the burgers!”  63%!

Yes, 63% for the burgers.  37% for the Tex-Mex.  I’m sure you’d agree.  Our verdict is a definite landslide!

We’ve been making visits to Walt Disney World since 1999.  Can you believe we’ve never so much as peeked into the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade?

Well, now, we have.  Take a look!  Is this shootin’ gallery a favorite of yours?  It looks mighty fun!  Anyway, see ya’ later, cowpokes!
