Opinion: Should We Be Picking On Tomorrowland?

Hey, folks!  Did you tackle yesterday’s re-imagineering challenge?  No?  Well, join in on all of the fun.  It’s a bit of a controversial one.  Please stop back at …

Rehabilitate? Or, Eliminate? – Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover!

I’ll cover the results tomorrow.  In the meantime, I took a quick look back at some rehabilitation history.  My friends, I think I have been unwittingly picking on Tomorrowland!

Including this week’s TTA effort, over the years, we’ve completed ten Re-Imagineering “projects”.  Ten.  Of those ten, three of them involved Tomorrowland attractions!

Back in 2015, we dealt with Stitch’s Great Escape in decisive fashion.  Nearly 75% of you declared that the lovable(?) alien’s ride must be eliminated!  Only 6% of you suggested it be left completely alone.

To all appearances, Disney took our advice to heart as Stitch has reportedly closed – as of January 6th – to make way for a new, yet-to-be-announced, attraction.

Then, just last month, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin fell into our “gun sights”.  We surely love that little astronaut.  Only 11% of you declared for elimination.  However, the majority (over 65%) cried “rehabilitate”!

At first, I wasn’t quite sure why I chose two Tomorrowland rides in back-to-back months.  It was quite subconscious, I can assure you.  But, then, I started thinking about the land’s attractions.

  • Astro Orbiter
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
  • Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
  • Space Mountain
  • Stitch’s Great Escape!
  • Tomorrowland Speedway
  • Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
  • Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress

Depending on how you look at their various versions, five of these eight have existed in some form (or name) for over forty years!  Forty!  Oh, yes, I know that they’re all considered to be iconic.  But, come on!

Look, I understand that Carousel has to stay.  It is Walt, after all.  Yesterday’s voting demonstrated that you clearly love TTA.  In spite of unsubstantiated rumors of its demise, Space Mountain is an icon.  How can we deny that?

UNSUBSTANTIATED Rumor Reaction: Space Mountain!

Having said all of that, will Tron Lightcycle Power Run (if that’s what it’ll be called) be enough to rescue Tomorrowland from “Yesteryear”?  That’s my question, I guess.

Disney is rehabilitating, what seems like, every acre of Walt Disney World these days.  Should we be picking on Tomorrowland?  In my opinion, I think we should.  It’s long in the tooth.  Why shouldn’t we “target” it?  I bet that Disney already is.

What do you think, everyone?  Is Tron the end of Tomorrowland’s transformation?  Will there be much more to come?  Will some of these iconic attractions be rehabilitated or replaced?  Leave your comments on this post, on Facebook, or on Twitter!

Rehabilitate? Or, Eliminate? – Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover!

Before we jump into this provocative topic, let me ask … did you take a shot at Tuesday’s trivia “challenge”?  No?  Then, by all means, please stop back!  It’s a quick “quiz”, my friends.  Only four questions!

One warning, though … jump back before you scan past the picture below.  If you don’t, you’ll see the “beans” spilled all over the page!  Find that little “test” at …

So, when it comes to the answers, everyone, here they are!  Let’s take a few minutes to reveal some fun facts about the Magic Kingdom’s iconic PeopleMover!

First up, this beloved attraction was originally called the WEDWay PeopleMover!  I had said, “Let’s start with an easy one, shall we?”  This question lived up to that billing, as I fooled next to no one!  Good work!

The next question proved to be a bit tougher, however.  A lot of you responded that the TTA started its “cruise” on Magic Kingdom’s Opening Day.  In actual fact, it kicked off operations on July 1, 1975!

Having said that, you did very well on Question #3.  From a sponsorship standpoint, the ride is currently presented by Alamo!  Did you know that it was originally sponsored by the Edison Electric Institute?  Huh?  What was/is that?

Finally, I asked you how long this beloved journey through the land of tomorrow lasts.  The most-popular answer was 10 minutes and 3 seconds, and that was absolutely correct!  Wow!  Great job!

The last time that the TTA took an extended “time-out” for a refurb was in the Summer of 2009.  It was lined up with the most-recent major overhaul of Space Mountain.

That doesn’t seem like all that long ago, now does it?  Nevertheless, you have to admit … the “sky train” does have somewhat of a dated “1970s” feel to it.  It leads me to ask …

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover!  Should we rehabilitate?  Leave the ride and theme alone, but give it yet another facelift, maybe?  Should we eliminate?  Replace the TTA with a new attraction altogether?  Or, should we simply leave it completely alone?

Your task, today, is a two-part job.  First, what’s your VOTE?  Second, if you want to rehabilitate, what do you suggest we do?  If you want to eliminate, what should take its place?  In other words, what’s your “Project Plan”?

Leave your comments on this post, on Facebook, on Twitter, or on Reddit!  This is our “take” on Imagineering, folks.  It’s “Re-Imagineering”!  What say you?  Get to work!

The Results are Final! Did Woody and Buzz FINALLY Take Hollywood by Storm?!

Great tournament, my friends!  Before we congratulate the victor, though, let’s check out a little bit of history.  It might spread some light on just how fierce Hollywood’s rivalry has been over the years.

Wow!  Incredibly consistent, year-after-year.  Remarkably close … most of the time!  What happened with Tower in 2017?  Where were those 94 supporters in 2018?

In the end, Hollywood’s story boils down to two main characters – the “terror-striking” tower that has ruled the roost four times and the “box” of toys that, this year, reclaims the crown it stole(?) by one vote in 2016.

Toy Story Midway Mania!?  This year, there is no question.  Congratulations!  Beloved by most, enjoyed by many, you are the 2018 All in WDW Readers’ Favorite Hollywood Studios Attraction!

Today’s voting is very straightforward.  Below, I present you with your six most-sensational Hollywood “stars”.  What’s your job?  VOTE for as many as THREE attractions!
