Vote! Food & Wine “First-Round” Finale!

Thanks for the great response yesterday, my friends!  87 votes got tallied, and we “saved” three more dishes.  And, they’re all good choices, in my humble opinion!

“Safe … for now” are:

  • Seared Scallop – Brazil
  • Seared Mahi-Mahi – Singapore
  • Berry Belgian Waffle – Belgium

We eliminated:

  • Artisan Cheese – Cheese
  • Chili Colorado – Terra
  • Sweet & Sour Shrimp – Refreshment Port

So, we FINALLY make it to our last and final day of “first round” of selections.  Thanks for “playing along” for this mini-marathon.  In fact, do you realize that over the course of the last few weeks, and after today, we will have worked our original list of 61 dishes down to a much more manageable 36?  Only 9 more (excruciating) “cuts” after today, and we’ll be at our 25!

That’s the biggest challenge with Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival.  What do you choose to try?  You can’t possibly have a sample of everything!  You have to make decisions.  You have to cut down your target list.  That’s exactly what you’re teaming up to do through this rapid succession of polls.

And, speaking of polls, here is the finale!  VOTE!  As before, the Top 3 from each of these groups move into the “safe zone” … otherwise known as our Top 36 items!

  • “Le Cellier” Filet Mignon presented with wild mushrooms and draped in a truffle butter sauce
  • Black Pepper Shrimp served with Sichuan noodles
  • Escargots (snails) combined with garlic and parsley in a delicate brioche pastry
  • Roast Bratwurst on a small pretzel roll
  • A Taste of Greece in the form of a plate of marinated and grilled calamari, htipiti (a dip of feta cheese and roasted red peppers), eggplant dip, olives, and pita bread
  • Kalua Pork Sliders prepared with a sweet and sour Dole pineapple chutney and a drizzle of spicy mayo
  • A Cheese Selection from Ireland described as being a trio of (a sharp, strong flavored) cheddar, a Dubliner with Irish Stout (a sweet mature cheese combining the sharpness of mature cheddar, the nuttiness of Swiss cheese, and the bite of Parmesan), and Skellig (a sweet cheddar cheese)
  • Salsiccia which is a sweet Italian sausage.  Last year, it was served with peppers, onions, and a small slice of Ciabatta
  • A griddled tofu topped with miso sauce and edamame called Youki Tofu.  It will be served with grilled vegetables
  • Scottish Salmon served on a bed of cauliflower puree and dressed with watercress and a malt vinaigrette
