Food & Wine ’13 Scouting Report: Australia

Just how much does Mrs. All in WDW love those lamb chop “lollipops”?

If you missed it yesterday, Rick Howard, President of Kingdom Magic Vacations and host of the Travel with Rick video-cast, invited us to join him on his quest to cover each and every Food & Wine ’13 marketplace in the month of October.  That found us smack dab in the middle of Australia!

Before we got there, however, I took a shot at an advanced review of the Aussies’ 2013 effort.  What grade did I give them?  Read my “Food & Wine ’13 Scouting Report: Australia” to find out.  Then, watch the show.  Did they do as well as I expected?

See you tomorrow for … SINGAPORE!

Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!

That’s what the Cast Members at the Australia marketplace were cheering while Rick Howard and I were waiting in line to get the food for today’s video review.  Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!  I felt like I was at a World Cup soccer match!

As you know, Rick Howard, President of Kingdom Magic Vacations and host of the Travel with Rick video-cast, is spending the whole month of October covering each and every Food & Wine ’13 marketplace.

Today is Australia … featuring All in WDW!  Yahoo!!  Join us as we devour lamb chop “lollipops”!  Mmmm.

Food & Wine ’13 Scouting Report: Brazil

Hey, everybody!  Did you get a chance to watch yesterday’s show?  What did you think?  We’re dying to know!

If you missed it, Rick Howard, President of Kingdom Magic Vacations and host of the Travel with Rick video-cast, is spending the whole month of October covering each and every Food & Wine ’13 marketplace.  Yesterday, was Brazil … featuring Mrs. All in WDW, and myself!

Our thanks to Rick Howard and his Director of Marketing, John Donahue, for giving us such an incredible opportunity.  See us, again, in a few days as we cross the Pacific Ocean and land in Australia!

In the meantime, yesterday’s show wasn’t our first “visit” to Brazil.  Before the crispy pork belly and seared scallops even hit a plate, I was already busy trying to sort out just how well this marketplace would fare in its return to the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.

You’ve seen the show (hopefully!).  Now, jump over to Kingdom Magic Vacations’ Blog in order to catch my Food & Wine ’13 Scouting Report: Brazil!  Did Brazil meet or exceed my expectations?  Or, did they fall short?  Read the “preview”.  Watch the show.  Only then will you know!

It’s Brazil!

Calling all All in WDW fans!  Spend a few minutes with us and watch Food & Wine (Day #2) with Rick Howard, Mrs. All in WDW, and myself as we review Brazil!

It’s the Travel with Rick video-cast brought to you by Kingdom Magic Vacations.  Rick is spending the whole month of October covering each and every Food & Wine ’13 marketplace.  See today’s episode – featuring All in WDW – here!

Seared Scallop.  Crispy Pork Belly.  Come join us as we feast on the best of Brazil!  All in WDW on Travel with Rick!

The TERRIFIC Trio!

Good morning, all! Did you watch yesterday’s video-cast?

If you missed it, click this link to see Mrs. All in WDW and I participate in a Food & Wine Roundtable with Rick Howard (owner of Kingdom Magic Vacations and host of the Travel with Rick video-cast) and his friends.

As soon as Food & Wine opens on Friday, September 27th, Rick will start recording ‘marketplace by marketplace’ episodes of the Travel with Rick show aimed at bringing you an ‘up close and personal’ review of each Food & Wine kiosk, and Mrs. All in WDW and I have been invited to join him on three of those shows!

Amidst yesterday’s ‘Travel with Rick’ video-cast, you saw us get assigned the opportunities to join Rick in enjoying the cuisines of New Zealand, Greece, and Singapore. Well, some slick negotiating shook that up a bit and landed us with dates to sample and review:

  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • Singapore

So.  What do you think?  Would you be happy with being chosen to introduce these three marketplaces to the WDW “blog-o-spere”?  Which of their dishes would you be most excited to try on camera?  Please leave comments and let us know!

Mmmm. I can't wait to have some more of that pork belly, Brazil!

Mmm. I can’t wait to have more of that pork belly, Brazil!

Another Episode of the Food & Wine Roundtable!

Seven days! Yes, only seven more days!

Exactly seven days from today (SIX, if we’re lucky and Disney “soft opens” the Epcot Food & Wine Festival a day early), mountains of delicious food and cascades of wine and beer will start to be served. Outstanding!

In the meantime, there’s still a little bit of business to conduct. Like, today, it’s time to return to Rick Howard’s world!

Last week, you saw Mrs. All in WDW and I participate in a Food & Wine Roundtable with Rick (owner of Kingdom Magic Vacations and host of the Travel with Rick video-cast) and his friends. Did you miss it? To go back to that episode and hear us reminisce about 2012 and find out what we’re all looking forward to in 2013, visit this link. You’ll also learn of the “outlandish” wager I made with Rick!

For today, the conversation continues. On the opening day of the festival, Rick will start recording ‘marketplace by marketplace’ episodes of the Travel with Rick show aimed at bringing you an ‘up close and personal’ review of each Food & Wine kiosk. The participants in these Food & Wine roundtables will join Rick in recording those shows.

Check out this week’s edition of the Travel with Rick video-cast to see “who got what”! In other words, Mrs. All in WDW and I have the honor of recording our three assigned episodes with Rick on Friday, September 27th (Opening Day)! What three marketplaces will we be enjoying that day?! Watch ‘Travel with Rick’ to find out!!

Oh, and did I mention? SEVEN more days!!

Food & Wine Roundtable!

It’s here!  Finally!  The video dropped today!

Do you remember that Mrs. All in WDW and I got the opportunity to participate in a Food & Wine Roundtable with Rick Howard (of Kingdom Magic Vacations and the Travel with Rick podcast) and his friends late last July?

To hear us reminisce about 2012 and find out what we’re all looking forward to in 2013, visit Travel with Rick’s latest video-cast at this link and answer this very important question … just what “outlandish” wager did I make with Rick?!

Check out the video and enjoy!

Only Three More Weeks!

Three weeks!! Three weeks, my friends! Just three more weeks until the “festival of all festivals” opens its doors to let us into its exquisite culinary “delicious-ness”! YAHOO!

Until then, we have a LOT of work to do. Today, I want to share this month’s Travel with Rick video-cast schedule. Do you remember that we (Mrs. All in WDW and I) participated in recording two Food & Wine-related episodes of Travel with Rick in late July?

The Internet service at the BoardWalk Inn was pretty spotty that night. Whether or not you got a chance to see us “do our thing” is a mystery. Well, if you couldn’t tune in for the “live show”, or if you tried and couldn’t catch the feed, you’ll have your chance to see Mrs. All in WDW and I over the next few weeks. Here’s what’s on Rick’s schedule:

TODAY! September 6th – This episode will feature an informal discussion between Rick, John Donahue, and Andrew Harris (all of Kingdom Magic Vacations). What ideas and plans will they be sharing with us over the next several weeks? To find out, go here to see the show!!

September 13th – This episode will mark All in WDW’s first appearance on the Travel with Rick video-cast. We join Rick and his friends in discussing past Food & Wine festivals as well as what we’re all looking forward to in 2013!

September 20th – In this episode, we unveil who will join Rick in reviewing specific marketplaces at this year’s Food & Wine. You won’t want to miss this show because none of us knew what kiosks we would “get” until we opened our “secret” envelopes!

September 27th – This is a MUST SEE episode of Travel with Rick! This is the day that Epcot’s 2013 International Food & Wine Festival opens! You’ll even get a glimpse behind the scenes and see how Rick has been training and preparing for this year’s amazing festival!

October 1st – Episode #1 of Travel with Rick’s DAILY Food & Wine reports will air! When will you see All in WDW on TwR? I’ll give you a hint … we record our episodes on September 27th. Yes, the day the festival opens, Mrs. All in WDW and I will get right down to “business”. Food & Wine on Travel with Rick business!

Watch today’s episode, folks! Rick and his team put on an entertaining and informative show!

Here’s the schedule:

7:00 – 7:30: Pre-Show
7:30 – 9:00: ”Travel with Rick” Begins

If we’re not right on schedule at 7:00, please be patient. We’ll be there sometime between then and 7:30, I’m sure.

And, what’s on tap for tonight?

Join a round-table of:

  • Rick Howard (President and Owner of Kingdom Magic Vacations and host of the Travel with Rick video podcast)
  • John and Sarah Donahue (WDW Parkhoppers and the Disney Parks Podcast)
  • Tony Caselnova (Disney by the Numb3rs and the Disney Parks Podcast)
  • Amanda Tinney (Disney Every Day)
  • “Rhino” Ken Zipeto (Rhino Wine Gear)
  • Ashley and Robin Reeve (A Cup of Disney and The Walt Disney World Dads)
  • Sarah McGovern Luka (Running at Disney)
  • Andrew Harris (Kingdom Magic Vacations)
  • Myself and Mrs. All in WDW!

We’ll be discussing this past Saturday’s preview event (attended by Rick, Tony, and myself) as well as what we’re all MOST looking forward to at this year’s festival.  Then, we’re going to divide up all 29 marketplaces among us and schedule Travel with Rick video-casts to cover each booth!  Oh, please, don’t give me haggis!

And, who will we find at Food & Wine this year?  Here they are:

  1. Terra
  2. Brazil – returning after a one-year absence
  3. Argentina
  4. Australia
  5. Mexico
  6. Singapore
  7. China
  8. South Korea – bring me that Kimchi Dog!
  9. Africa – notice it’s not “South Africa”?
  10. Cheese
  11. Brewer’s Collection
  12. Germany – step it up, Germany!
  13. Poland
  14. Italy
  15. Hops & Barley
  16. Florida Local
  17. Japan
  18. Morocco/Mediterranean – hmm, not just Morocco but Mediterranean too.  Interesting.
  19. New Zealand
  20. Belgium
  21. France
  22. Ireland – I had thought they were going to get replaced by Scotland, so this is a nice surprise
  23. Canada – I confirmed that their “Chicken Chipotle Sausage with Sweet Corn Polenta” will not return in 2013. Disappointing.
  24. Greece
  25. Refreshment Port – this will be the site of the Creamsicle Dole Whip!
  26. Desserts & Champagne
  27. Scotland
  28. Hawaii
  29. Craft Beers

And, if I’m not missing my guess, I think that will end up being the geographic order of booths as you enter World Showcase from Future World and move clockwise around the lagoon.

So, who’s missing?  Comparing to 2012′s line-up, the most notable “good-byes” go out to Scandinavia and the Caribbean Islands.

I have to tell you … I won’t miss the Taste of Scandinavia.  It finished 28th in my Top 25 last year.  Yes, I said 28th.  However, I will miss the Caribbean’s Ropa Vieja.

Watch the show tonight, folks!  It will be a blast.  Just come to this link at 7:00 PM!  Look for more reminders throughout the day!

Food & Wine Preview Event: Initial Recap

I’m sure it’s going to take me weeks to completely recap this epic event.  There was just so much going on last night and so much that we learned.

To start, here’s the design scheme for 2013 …

The back of the event's menu.

The back of the event’s menu.

The event’s guests were told they could arrive at 6:00 PM in order to pick up their wristbands (tickets) and table assignments, and I showed up a little before that only to find that a pretty long line had already begun to grow.  It was clear that everybody was excited to see Food & Wine’s 2013 “kick-off”.

My guest for the evening arrived shortly thereafter …

Our table assignment.

Our table assignment.

As it turned out, Rick Howard - President and Owner of Kingdom Magic Vacations and the host of the Travel with Rick video podcast – and I were really excited about our seat assignment.  Our thanks go out to Cate of Tables in Wonderland.  She sat us with Chef Marianne Hummel (formerly executive chef of Spoodles, wife of Chef Scott Hummel of Victoria & Albert’s fame, and lead organizer of the entire Food & Wine festival)!

Also at our table were the event’s emcee, Pam Smith, representatives of A.J. Wolfe’s Disney Food Blog and the Orlando Sentinel, as well as Deb Wills and several other members of the AllEars.net team.  What a table, indeed!  And, what an opportunity for a fledgling blog like All in WDW!  Thanks, again, Cate!  You rock!

So, what “tid-bits” did we pick up?

First, the full menu is not yet ready for disclosure.  We can expect that in a week or so.

Ireland will return this year.  I had speculated that Scotland might replace Ireland this year.

Dole Whip will attend this year’s festival.  Let me pause a minute as you “whoop” and “holler” your way into an excited frenzy.  It will be an orange-flavor Dole Whip topped with a cream liqueur.  The goal?  Make it taste like a Creamsicle!

Linda Bean will not be participating in the festival this year, but we will be able to find a lobster roll – presumably at the Hops & Barley marketplace.  The recipe will be different from last year.

Although it was served at the preview event last night, Florida’s Watermelon Salad will not be on the festival’s menu this year.

The Florida Grass-Fed Beef Sliders are made from Wagyu Kobe Beef.

The Terra marketplace will be serving a red blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon called The Vegan Vine.  It is the filtering technique that makes it vegan, and it was very good.  It was created by retired NBA superstar John Salley.

And, finally, despite my skepticism, the South Korean Kimchi Dog rocks!

If you didn’t see all the food pictures last night … experience the “delicious-ness”!

The chocolate cheesecake was the best of the bunch, in my opinion.  Oh, there’s so much more to come, my friends!

BoardWalk welcomes us with, what we think is, a “mammoth” standard room.  It’s about as far down the hall as you can get, but it is really nice!

Then, we enjoyed some Flying Fish wine at … Flying Fish!  It was our first-ever dinner there, and we sat at the “Chef’s Table”!
