Food Truck Frenzy! New Ordering Process in Disney Springs?

Food trucks, my friends!  Are you a food truck fan?  Yes?  No?  Here … let me be more specific.  Are you a Disney food truck fan?

Actually, where we live in Atlanta, we see a different selection of food trucks each and every Wednesday.  I have to confess.  I’ve never tried one.  My bad, I know.

Having said all of that, I’ve talked about Disney’s food trucks in the past.  You know, Fantasy Fare – an ode to WDW’s Magic Kingdom as well as California’s Disneyland.

How about World Showcase of Flavors – the best of Epcot’s multitude of seasonal food festivals?

Or, Namaste Cafe.  This vehicle once served a WDW favorite – Butter Chicken.  Wait a minute.  “Once served”?  Keep reading, folks.  You’ll see what I mean later.

Regardless of any of Disney Springs’ various themes, I definitely want to try one of these venues at some point.  I just have to be in the right spot at the right time.  They’re never open when we stroll by!

I’ll tell you what, though … if we do make a visit to WDW’s “food truck park”, it’ll have a unique (as far as food trucks are concerned) ordering process.

Check it out!  These days, you order at a central location “up front”.

Then, you pick up your “grub” at the truck!

Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that Spring’s Street Tacos is a relatively new entry – as far as I’ve seen – to “downtown’s” food offerings.

A re-invention of Namaste Cafe (compare the pictures of the two trucks), this truck sports a taco selection that includes Grilled Steak, Crispy Pork Belly, Grilled Spiced Mahi Fillet, and Braised Adobo Chicken.  Yum!

I know.  Disney Springs offers many food options these days.  Why take the time and money to patronize a food truck?

Novelty?  Convenience?  Variety?  Price?  I’m not sure what would drive you to try, but, for us, that crispy pork belly is mighty enticing!

Have you sampled one of the delights supplied by a Disney Springs food truck?  If so, what did you try?  What did you think?  Let us all know!

Back to Trattoria al Forno … One Last Time?

My friends.  I’m so depressed.  My poor Trattoria.  They went and made it a character breakfast.  How sad.

Actually, characters will make appearances at breakfast beginning this coming Sunday – April 2nd.  Until then, all is “well”.  After that?  Ooof.

Oh, don’t get me wrong.  I’m sure that there are many out there that are happy to have a place to meet Ariel, Prince Eric, Rapunzel, and Flynn Rider.

Me?  Not so much.  Here’s a quote … “I think that Mrs. All in WDW and I have found the absolute best breakfast on Disney property.”

Yeah.  That was me.  Why was I such a “fan”?  Well, the food, of course.  I loved their breakfasts!  And, it didn’t matter if it was a Frittata

… or Poached Eggs!

Either were phenomenal, to be truthful!  Fortunately, before Disney crushed my world with this misguided change, however, Mrs. All in WDW and I got the chance to visit one last time.

What did we have?  Hah!  We started with a Caprese Bloody Mary.

Delicious!  Of course, then, I had to choose a breakfast.  Hmm.  I wanted something different.  Frittata.  Poached eggs.  I know!  Breakfast Calzone!

Scrambled eggs, cured meat, and a blend of cheeses stuffed in an oven-baked dough and served with Sunday gravy.  Yum!

It surely was fantastic, but I have to admit … given a choice of the three aforementioned dishes, the Poached Eggs would be my choice.

Of course, that’s all moot now.  Oh, I have nothing against Ariel, Rapunzel, and crew.  I’m just not ‘up’ for a character-packed pair of eggs.

My friends, if you do decide to visit Trattoria al Forno, keep your eyes peeled.  Any of their breakfasts are good.

As for the characters?  Ugh.  Bring me another Bloody Mary please.

Hitting the Streets! It’s Morimoto Asia Street Food!

Good morning, WDW fans!  Guess what?  We’re heading back to Disney Springs!  So, exactly what is “street food”?

Well, according to Wikipedia, it is “… ready-to-eat food or drink sold by a hawker, or vendor, in a street or other public place, such as at a market or fair.”

In addition, “[i]t is often sold from a portable food booth, food cart, or food truck and meant for immediate consumption.”

Hey!  That pretty much sounds like any Disney Quick Service, food festival kiosk, or snack cart to me!  Hmmm.

Actually, as advertised by the outdoor restaurant, themselves, Morimoto Asia Street Food is based on a history that dates back centuries.

The venue gets their inspiration from the dishes you can find, today, all throughout Asia, as much as from the childhood memories of Masaharu Morimoto himself.

So, what does the Iron Chef have in store for us?  Let’s see!

From ribs to egg rolls and noodles to sushi, he has it covered!  In fact, when we get a chance to stop back for a meal, I might not be able to choose!

How about you, folks?  Place your order in the poll below!  Will it be lo-mein?  Bao tacos, maybe?  Yum!  What do you crave?  Choose up to THREE!

“The World’s” Best Garlic Shrimp? It’s Spice Road Table!

Happy Friday, everyone!  I feel like it’s “Doug Davis Week” on the web site, my friends!

After yesterday’s nautical tribute to Skipper Doug’s Sassagoula River Cruise, we return, today, with one of his all-time favorite Disney dishes!  Where can it be found, you ask?

Spice Road Table.  Found on the edge of World Showcase Lagoon and across from Epcot’s Moroccan Pavilion, it’s an unheralded Table Service restaurant.

Oh, I’ve definitely been pretty critical of the place.  At first, Mrs. All in WDW and I really enjoyed their service and cuisine.

Their Mix Grill Skewers are (were?) phenomenal, for example.  It was the venues entry into the Disney Dining Plan and massive price inflation of those skewers that drove us away, however.

Undeterred, though, Doug continues, to this day, to coax us back for what he feels is their very best dish.  It is something that he always aims to have when he visits “The World” – Spicy Garlic Shrimp!

Sautéed shrimp with dried chilies and fried garlic, Doug swears by the absolute “delicious-ness” of this Mediterranean delight.  It is a $10.99 small plate, and he’d say it’s worth every penny.

Of course, the shrimp isn’t all he’d recommend.  Served, here, with a single Lamb Slider, we find another morsel on his “to-do” list – Hummus Fries!

You can buy the fries, alone, as a $8.99 small plate or, of course, sample them with Spice’s sliders.  Buy a plate of three of those for $24.99.

In closing, I’ll say this … Doug has never steered Mrs. All in WDW and I wrong.  That being the case, I guess we’ll have to give Spice Road Table another chance.  Shrimp and fries?  Here we come!

Note: my thanks to avid WDW Main Street listener and All in WDW reader – Judith – for pictures of the shrimp, lamb, and fries!
