Dining Recon: Breakfast at The Wave … of American Flavors!

Lately, Mrs. All in WDW and I have become really big fans of Disney breakfasts.  Yeah, if you’ve been following my most-recent posts, you know that already.  Take a look …

What brought that on, however?  Well, we’ve discovered that if we head off to a resort for a mid to late morning ADR, we can pretty much cut lunch entirely out of our schedule!

Think about it.  Breakfast at 10 to 11 AM.  Dinner at 4 to 5 PM.  Less calories.  Less money!  Perfect!

Anyway, in the breakfast-seeking spirit, we visited the Contemporary Resort’s The Wave … of American Flavors on our last trip.

It was a really good thing we stopped in, too, because I was able to acquire the answer to the question I posed in yesterday’s post.  What cheese fits best in a shrimp omelet?

The answer?  Well, we will see that in a minute.  First?  Let’s start our day with a Bay Lake Bloody Mary!

And, Organic Colombian Press Pot Coffee!

img_3718

Both delicious!  But, what’s on the menu, eh?  Hmm.  A Breakfast Buffet!  Citrus-scented Brioche French Toast.  Very enticing choices!

img_3720

I have to admit … I was sorely tempted to try the Wave Signature Sweet Potato Pancakes.  Have any of you?  How are they?  I’d love to know!

When it came down to it, the Florida Rock Shrimp Omelet had to be my choice.  After all, you saw my recipe.  It was a wreck!  I clearly needed a lesson from the “pros”!

img_3727

So, what cheese fits best in a shrimp omelet?  The Wave’s “design” includes avocado and pepper jack cheese!  That’s it!  Pepper jack!

Before you spout skepticism, my friends, let me tell you this.  The omelet was phenomenal!  Absolutely fantastic!

Accompanied by a lovely and well-loaded Fresh Fruit Plate, that Mrs. All in WDW and I shared, this was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had on property!

The Wave … of American Flavors, folks.  We highly recommend it be one of your choices for breakfast!  Sure, you can choose their buffet, but their shrimp omelet is a definite winner!  Yum!

Another “Wave” of American Flavors?!

Mrs. All in WDW and I recently joined a friend for a few quick appetizers at one of the Contemporary Resort’s fine eateries – The Wave … of American Flavors!  Great food, folks!

When it comes to the Contemporary, we surely love their restaurants.  For instance, I haven’t been shy at all about naming the California Grill as one of our overall WDW favorites.  For our family, it has sentimental appeal … and a delicious menu!

I’ve written about The Wave before, as well.  Located on the resort’s first floor, for us, it is also a frequent stop.  We’ve dropped in for lunch from time to time, but, most often, we’ll take a few seats at the restaurant’s bar.

The Wave

Billed as an ‘elegant oasis’, according to Disney, The Wave Lounge ‘promises a chic retreat for adults looking to unwind.’  Refreshing cocktails and tasty “snacks”, it’s worth a spot on your “to-do” list.  Check out their food!

Our group started with the Buffalo Chicken Flatbread and Soft Pretzels and Dips.

We moved on to the Vegetarian Flatbread.

Then, we finished with the Lump Crab and Florida Rock Shrimp Cakes.

All phenomenal, the crab cakes and Buffalo flatbread get my highest recommendations.  The cakes were crispy yet tender.  The flatbread was bursting with flavor.

My friends, Mrs. All in WDW and I are creatures of habit.  When we find a place we like, we are prone to visit time and again.  The Wave is one of those spots.  Drop in!  We guarantee that you’ll like it!

Hey! What About Cabana Bar? Trivia Revealed!

Yeah!  What about Cabana Bar?  When it comes to WDW’s pool bars, Mrs. All in WDW reminds me that I left a couple of our favorite spots off my list yesterday.

For example, I mentioned Mardi Grogs, Siestas Cantina, Leaping Horse Libations, and Hurricane Hanna’s.  On the other hand, I completely forgot the WDW Dolphin’s Cabana Bar and Beach Club.

A great spot, I’ve actually featured them twice on the site …

Then, after my lovely wife pointed that fact out to me, I recalled the fun times we’ve had over at Disney’s Old Key West Resort.  Visit Gurgling Suitcase, folks!

A small, but fantastic, “pub”, I’ve raved about it as well …

I guess the moral of the story is that Walt Disney World sports a bunch of great pool-side venues!  Stop back in a few days, and we’ll tackle the task of deciding which ones of them are our ultimate favorites!

In the meantime, yesterday, I asked you, “How well do you know WDW’s pool bars?”  Pretty well, I’d say!

From the pairs I offered, I asked you to match the pool bar with its correct resort.  50% of you got it right!  One reader even commented, “Easy one!”

My friends, the correct pairing in yesterday’s trivia question was … The Sand Bar at Disney’s Contemporary Resort!  Take a look below for all of the correct matches!  Cheers!

  • Backstretch Pool Bar – Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
  • Grandstand Spirits – All-Star Sports Resort
  • Beaches Pool Bar & Grill – Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  • The Sand Bar – Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • Banana Cabana Pool Bar – Caribbean Beach Resort

Welcome to WDW Pool Bar Trivia!

Welcome to June, my friends!  Wow!  The year is flying by, isn’t it?  Summer, and the very busy Walt Disney World vacation season, is here!

Hey!  Who doesn’t love spending a slice of their Summer vacation relaxing at a good pool bar?  For example, Mrs. All in WDW and I have been known to visit Mardi Grogs at Port Orleans-French Quarter from time to time.

Siestas Cantina at Coronado Springs has, of course, always been a favorite.

We’ve also been known to visit the BoardWalk Inn & Villa’s clown at Leaping Horse Libations.

Having said all that, Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill is a great place to enjoy the Beach and Yacht Clubs’ Stormalong Bay.  Fantastic pool.  Even better bar!

So.  How well do you know WDW’s pool bars?  From among the choices below, match the pool bar with its correct resort!  Hint: only one of these pairs is correct.  I’ll post the answer tomorrow!  Cheers, everyone!

Seven Seas Lagoon? Seven Seas Revealed!

Good morning, folks!  I hope that your weeks have started off on an excellent “note”.

Before I jump into revealing the answers to yesterday’s onslaught of trivia questions, let me give any latecomers to this little party once last chance to weigh in with their responses.

Seven Seas Lagoon?  Seven Seas of Trivia!  How well do you know Disney’s “seven seas”?  Take your shot right here!

Wow!  This pile of water-logged questions turned out to be a bit tougher than I expected, I’m afraid.  Thanks for taking on the challenge, my friends!  Let’s reveal the “secrets”.

#1 – Seven Seas Lagoon reaches a depth of 14 feet.  The most popular response, as of this writing, was 21 feet.  It amazes me that WDW’s ferry boats can navigate in such a shallow “pond”!

#2 – Seven Seas Lagoon connects with adjacent Bay Lake.  Yeah, I didn’t fool many with that question.  You blasted it into the bay!

#3 – Of the choices, only Wilderness Lodge does not border Seven Seas Lagoon.  Of course, you “owned” this question too.  You certainly know your resorts!

#4 – In total, 3 ferry boats can cross Seven Seas Lagoon in order to deliver Guests to and from Disney’s Magic Kingdom.  The most popular answer, so far, was 2 … but only by a slim margin!

#5 – I knew this one would be tough.  The normal capacity of each ferryboat is about 600 to 650 passengers.  Very big boats!  The most popular response was 400 to 450 passengers.

#6 – Seven Seas Lagoon’s infamous “wave machine” was located on Beachcomber Island.  Want to learn more about the Poly’s doomed wave machine?  Check out this great article by Jim Hill!

#7 – Of the choices I gave you, only Runoff Rapids does not find a home on Seven Seas Lagoon.  Once again, I didn’t fool you for even a second.  Those rapids can be found at Blizzard Beach!

Great work, my friends!  You made it through the “Gauntlet of the Seven Seas”!  See ya’ real soon!
